Surgery with anesthesiology
The current, sixth Official Textbook of the Department of surgery was published in May 2023. whatever. under the title "surgery with anesthesiology", and the editors are full-time prof. Aleksandar P. Simić, regular prof. Danica Grujicic and doc. Duško Spasovski. The publisher is the Center for publishing, library and informatics (CIBID) of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade.
The content of the current textbook is systematized in four basic parts divided into 97 chapters, which conceptually and content-wise correspond to the structure of the curriculum of teaching units in the field of surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade.
The first part of the textbook is conceived in the form of three chapters in which the unavoidable basic concepts as well as the philosophical concept of modern surgical practice are presented, as well as ethical and historical facts that every medical student and doctor must be fully aware of. It must not be forgotten that the development of surgery is indisputably based on high ethical principles, but also on the brave and lucid pioneering achievements of our, in the surgical world of immortal predecessors. The history of surgery is given due attention, because the knowledge of the most important elements of the historical heritage of surgery is not only a mandatory segment of the teaching opus, which is often neglected, but also a kind of reflection of the intellectual breadth of the future doctor.
In the second part, consisting of 16 chapters, the concept of general surgery is given, that is, an area that every graduate medical student must undoubtedly know well. This part of the textbook presents the basic general principles of modern surgery along with practical parts related to the understanding and treatment of, above all, emergency surgical conditions.
In the third part, in 8 chapters, everything necessary to understand the basics of anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive treatment, as indispensable and complementary parts of modern surgery, is summarized for the first time.
In the last, fourth part called "Special Surgery" in eleven surgical specialties, divided into a total of 70 chapters, a modern organological concept was presented, where pathophysiological, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic specificities of diseases of individual organs were discussed. The Au courant concept is evident throughout the textbook and is illustrated by an appropriate emphasis on diseases of contemporary surgical interest.
